A Tribute to the Killorglin Players
Edith Flahive, our Tralee bard, picks up her quill again, this
time to sing the praises of our visitors, the Killorglin CYMS Players, who
presented John B. Keane's play 'The Year of the Hiker' at the Club, November
2007.

The Killorglin Players to the UAE in 2007 came,
Both work and pleasure in October was their ultimate aim.
They visited many places in Abu Dhabi and Dubai,
The Emirates Palace, the Burj Al Arab, a desert trip under the Arabian sky.
Shopping too was on the agenda, though for the men it was a chore!
While the ladies stocked up on handbags, materials, perfumes, gold and more.
Each night the young ones hit the town, while the elders were to be found
In the Crowne Plaza at Heroes or Vincents, where tales of the day were swapped around.
But the highlight of their trip was the staging of John B Keane’s play,
‘The Year of the Hiker’ was a winner, captivating the audience all the way.
And such a magnificent performance would have made any Kerryman proud,
The rapturous applause at the end of the play signalled the appreciation of the crowd.
Now they’ve left the desert sands behind, that merry band of twenty-four,
To return to their daily routines and to reality once more!
But whether in Iraq, or Australia, or the Emerald Isle they may be,
Their memories have been captured on the Irish Society Website for eternity!
