Welcome Back Party - September 2007
The Abu Dhabi Irish Society and the Abu Dhabi Na Fianna had a Welcome Back Party on Thursday September 6th at the Crowne Plaza for members, new members, non-members and friends. It was a great start to the year!
Tadhg Flahive and Ben Kehoe from the Abu Dhabi Na Fianna promised us a year of activity as the two organizations moved towards closer integration.
Mercifully, the speeches were short, and the main business of the night got going - see the results here! Click for pics!
EGM, October 7
We are pleased to announce that our Extraordinary General Meeting on October 7 went very well. A good crowd (for mid-week and for the somewhat bureaucratic exercise of an EGM) voted on a proposal to merge the activities of the Irish Society and the Abu Dhabi Na Fianna. The result was clear - a mandate to join the two! Click here for details of the changes and the new constitution.
Tadhg Flahive,
the
newly-elected president of the Abu Dhabi Irish Society, hopes that this EGM will
build on the relationships between the Abu Dhabi Irish Society and the
very active Abu Dhabi Na Fianna Gaelic Athletic Games
over the years..

Deeply Missed
It was with deep regret we heard of the death of Michael Daly, one of the first and most prominent members of the Irish community in Abu Dhabi, on August 22, 2007. Michael the founder of local business Bin Moosa and Daly, arrived in the Gulf over 40 years ago, and was an active member of the community and the Irish society for very many years. General Meeting: Oct 1st, 2007
Our new committee, elected in May, would like to look at ways to combine the work of the Irish Society and the Abu Dhabi Na Fianna Gaelic games club under the banner of the Abu Dhabi Irish Society. This will help to remove the confusion that exists by having two Irish related organizations in the same city.
To give the members of both societies the opportunity to voice their opinions on the proposed changes and to vote on the merger it has been decided to call an EGM on Sunday 7th of October at 20.00. in the Crowne Plaza.
Read our constitution here, meet the outgoing committee, put yourself forward.
Abu Dhabi Rose of Tralee:
May 3
Congratulations to Laura O'Sullivan, winner of our Abu Dhabi Rose Selection Dinner. From West Cork, Laura teaches in Giggles English school in Abu Dhabi, and went forward to the official Rose of Tralee selection event in Dubai.
We had a very enjoyable night, meeting the seven wonderful contestants, Aoife, Vicki, Ciara, Lisa, Francesca, Clare, and of course Laura. We had arias, hornpipes, traditional tunes and songs, poems, great food, Irish dancing from the Irish dancing group here in Abu Dhabi, and beautiful singing from Fiona Marsh. All in all, a wonderful evening..
The girls did us proud, and all should be proud of themselves.
